ABOUT

Sugar Pill Photography was created in 2012 by photographer Julie Pauline. She is based in Miami, FL and specializes in event, portraiture, production, and documentary photography.

Born and raised in Miami by a Latin family, Julie grew up with an appreciation for music and the arts in her international city. As a teenager, she began to discover her love for taking pictures at her friends’ local band shows. As her love for attending live performances grew, she soon discovered the local musicians of South Florida. Over the past decade, she has photographed local South Florida acts such as Radioboxer, Humbert, Afrobeta, Boxwood, Haute Tension, and The Brand.

Julie attended Miami International University of Art and Design, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography in 2015. She interned as an In-House photographer for music promoter company POPLIFE Miami, capturing concerts at Grand Central, a live music venue in downtown Miami. Afterwards, she continued as a photographer for media outlet South Florida Nights Online Magazine, providing media coverage for exclusive events including charity galas, fashion shows, film festivals, and VIP performances. In 2016, she became a product photographer for Dover Jewelry and Diamonds, a high-end vintage and estate jewelry company. For a year and a half she worked in-studio producing images for their e-commerce and marketing website.

In 2017, she joined local production company D’Vision Indie Films and assisted with the creation of projects such as music videos, discussion panels, commercials, actor auditions, and social media content for local businesses. Her curiosity for film production led her to experiment with various production roles; from being a production assistant, to being a camera operator, a videographer, and an assistant director of photography. She was part of the production team for the company's short film "Happy Anniversary", written and directed by founder Andres Sarmiento in 2018. She has also worked alongside director Steven Salgado on the set of his short film "Chicos".

Taking a break from photography, Julie spent time volunteering abroad in Europe, assisting wildlife conservation and public education. During these trips she began to develop her passion for creating documentary work, focusing on video as her media of choice. Her passion is creating documentary style photography and videography of her many adventures and the people she meets, whether at home or across the ocean. In 2020 she was interviewed by VoyageMIA for their Shoutout Miami series where she shared a little bit more about her time abroad and taking risks, both in work and in life (you can read the full article here!).
